"En Plein Air" is a french term for the process of painting outdoors, directly from life. Here's a few of my favorite oil paintings created this way, along with some memories that accompanied them.

Plein Air Painting

"Sunset from Cadillac Mountain"

Acadia National Park, ME 🟢

"Top of the Morning"

Groton, MA 🔴

This one was a "warm up", yet it's one of my favorites ever. I painted it after trekking through the snow to the summit of Bancroft's Castle in Groton, Massachusetts.

"Winter Rust"

Upton, MA 🟢

"Dawn at the Wharf"

Rockport, MA 🟢

"First Light on Monhegan"

Monhegan Island, ME 🟢

"Dawn at the Fairytale Tree"

Berwyn, PA 🟢

"The Edge of Existence"

Sutton, MA 🟢

"View From Ruggles"

Franklin, MA 🟢

"Winter Light"

Sherborn, MA 🟢

"Papa's Bench"

Franklin, MA 🔴

Once a functional bench, now slowly being reclaimed by nature.

"Sittin' on the Dock"

Lake George, NY 🔴

"Sunset Song"

Franklin, MA 🟢

"Downpour Reservoir"

Norton, MA 🔴

When people say oil and water don't mix, they're right! But it sure does produce some cool affects. The rain stopped my oil paint from sticking to this one, allowing the wood color of my board to shine through and add a whole nother dimension!

"Cloudy Morning in the White Mountains"

Bath, NH 🟢

"Through the Trees"

Franklin, MA 🔴

"Norton Reservoir"

Norton, MA 🟢

"House on the Hill"

Franklin, MA 🟢
